VHIE PROGRAM OFFICE SUPPORT

As part of our comprehensive support, JPSys contributed to a range of mission-critical initiatives that underpin the modern VHIE ecosystem which extends to community partners and Oracle Health. We continue to provide support for the VHIE office and its extensive network of community care partners. Using a standards-based exchange model, we help external providers securely send and receive Veteran health records with the VA. This work improves care coordination and supports the VA’s mission to deliver high-quality, integrated healthcare to Veterans.

Standards Based Data Exchange for Vaccinations

JPSys supported vaccination data reporting initiatives and contributed to the implementation of FHIR based pilots for reporting data to the US State Immunization Systems (IIS). These services were essential in implementing electronic exchange between the VA and the various state IIS. Over a period of a year and a half, we successfully engaged with the staff of over 48 IIS Systems to onboard them into receiving the automate electronic VA data streams.

Direct Secure Messaging (DSM)

JPSys has been the leader of a 10 year effort to launch and guide the DSM work at VHA. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Interoperability Office (IO), as part of the Clinical Informatics and Data Management Office (CIDMO), directs and manages programs supporting interoperability between VA, the Department of Defense (DoD), Social Security Administration (SSA), and community health care providers (i.e., non-VA). In order to achieve interoperability amongst these agencies and organizations, IO sought to improve and promote health information sharing through Veterans Health Information Exchange (VHIE), VA Direct Messaging, HIE initiatives, and data standardization. Since 2016, Team JPSys has supported this goal, providing Business Support Services to the VHIE initiative (formerly VLER Health).

The DSM team was involved with developing and testing the new VA Direct Information Management System (VADIMS). The new system will house VA Direct information that pertains to outreach, implementation, and sustainment. Additionally, the team participated in developing out two Direct “Good News Stories” which received publication in CIDMO Spotlight and submitted a VA end user to the DirectTrust Interoperability Hero program.

Architecture for VHIE Program Office Transitions

Team JPSys led the transition of VHIE from its legacy adapter to the Veterans Data Integration and Federal Enterprise Platform (VDIF-EP). We architected the migration to the DoD/VA Joint Health Information Exchange (JHIE) platform. We played a pivotal role supporting the developers by leading the strategic and technical efforts required to transition the Veterans Health Information Exchange (VHIE).

Another transition we guided included the migration to the Veterans Data Integration and Federal Enterprise Platform (VDIF-EP). This integrated with the DOD/Veterans Affairs Joint Health Information Exchange (DoD/VA JHIE). This move marked a major improvement in how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) shares health information. It enhanced care quality, data access, and timeliness by enabling seamless, secure exchanges with both federal and private-sector partners.

This included support for the Joint Health Information Exchange network where we contributed to architecture design and data integration strategies that improve reliability and compliance with evolving health IT standards. Our team also provided specialized support in healthcare IT data architecture. This support helped systems work together and improved data consistency across care providers.
