Our Mission

Our mission at J P Systems is to standardize, manage, and improve the interoperability and usability of data.

We put business stakeholders at the forefront of the SDLC and engage them in every step of the agile, iterative production of the software application. By embodying their continuous feedback, we've enabled Federal enterprises to deliver faster results for health informatics users and ensure that the software aligns with the business needs and delivers the expected outcomes. We design systems so that the code modules are de-coupled from back-end databases and can be reused, reducing software engineering costs, complexity, and risk (i.e., proven code).

JPSys represents the VA at the HL7 standards development meetings. We support the adoption, specification and development of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) a robust specification for exchanging electronic health information. The standard is managed by the Health Level Seven International (HL7) health-care standards organization of which JPSys employees, Galen Mulroney and Jay Lyle are HL7 Fellows. We have used HL7 FHIR to modernize systems including:

  • Modernized the legacy fax-based VA Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting (ADERS) system to an automated, near real-time FHIR messaging systems, meeting the 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule for the implementation of FHIR APIs.
  • Provided the VA Pharmacy Benefits Management office with the blueprint for integrating state immunization registry histories and clinical documents from non-VA providers to support their enterprise Pharmacy web application.
  • Provided HL7 FHIR mapping for implementing an Apple Health mobile solution enabling patient clinical health record access from smart phones.

We design our systems and services to be automated, reusable, extensible and scalable.  Our solutions embody IT best practices from requirements definition through user acceptance testing following the agile Scrum framework for IT, and the business equivalent SAFe methodology.

About our Professional Healthcare IT Services

CELEBRATING OVER 40 YEARS!

A couple celebrates JPsys 40th anniversary.

Jackie Mulrooney founded J P Systems in 1983 to provide software services to commercial and federal clients. In 1998, Galen Mulrooney joined the company. Then, the focus shifted to Federal healthcare IT, data architecture, data quality improvement and clinical terminology services. J P Systems is an award-winning certified Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) and a prime contractor to the Federal government.

We provide professional services for enterprise-wide coordination of clinical data interoperability and standardized data exchange. Furthermore, we specialize in HL7 data standards development, standardized reference terminologies, stakeholder engagement, and data modeling.

Proper data interoperability planning enables the clinical data to move safely and reliably. Patient safety requires that clinical data moves at the speed of care. It is the nature of Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) systems to code medical data for storage in the patient records. Often, local codes are used that are not understandable or usable if the data is sent to a different hospital or Federal agency. We help clients to standardize the coding of data so that data can be sent outside of their organization. To do so, we map local codes to international standardized reference terminologies.

WHY HEALTHCARE DATA NEEDS TO MOVE

Clinical data must move at the speed of care. This video is a personal story of why clinical data exchange is so important to us at JPSys. In 2003, nursing homes did not communicate properly with hospitals to ensure continuity of care for patients. The prescriptions from the hospital did not transmit to the nursing homes readily. The delayed care meant that patients had to wait to be seen by the doctor before they could be given any medications. As a result of the data not traveling with them, the patients would go into withdrawal from not being able to get their medicine in a timely manner.

Federal Healthcare IT Professional Services

Since 1983, we have helped our Federal clients to better define and design their enterprise data architectures.

Our focus is on data architecture for Federal healthcare IT systems. We specialize in professional services for clinical data management. Most importantly, our architects plan how to support the meaningful clinical data exchange between enterprises. We provide consulting services for all aspects of data interoperability, including standardized clinical terminologies.

Our employees adhere to strict professional codes of conduct in accordance with our Core Values. Customer service is the number one focus of our Quality Management System.
