What are Environmental Determinants of Health (EDoH)?
According to an article in the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM):
Environmental factors can influence human health, including physical, chemical, and biological factors that are external to a person, and all related behaviors. Collectively, these are referred to as environmental determinants of health (EDHs). Threats to any one of the EDHs can have an adverse impact on the health and well-being of the population. These environmental threats can occur naturally, human-made, or because of social conditions and ways people live. Addressing these EDHs will directly improve the health of the population. Also see the PAHO website on EDoH. "As the intersection of environment and public health, in the framework of this Strategy, environmental public health addresses global, regional, national, and local environmental factors that influence human health, including physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person, and all related behaviors. Collectively, these conditions are referred to as environmental determinants of health (EDHs)."
According to an article from the NLM by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI):
Several modifiable environmental factors—such as outdoor air pollution, household air pollution, drinking water contamination, occupational exposure to hazardous materials, lead exposure, and built environments that discourage physical activity—influence the risk and experience of chronic disease. The World Health Organization estimates that 21.2% of global deaths and 16.3% of global disability-adjusted life years lost are attributable to these risk factors. Problem: Lack of awareness of the impact of Environmental Determinants of Health on patients who have Alzheimer’s, diabetes, behavioral health and even cardiac issues.
Solution: Automate the Reach Out to patient populations during critical air quality events for awareness and recommendations
Why Us: Expert teams of clinicians, terminologists, implementers enhancing existing system workflows to trigger reporting for Care Teams so they can reach out to patients.
