AI Governance
J P Systems AI Governance Program
Introduction
J P Systems is excited to launch our AI Governance Program. With our decades of IT development, software system design, medical informatics and clinical data standards expertise, coupled with supporting a large variety of Federal agencies since 1983, we have the expertise to guide agencies in the fundamentals of data management for safely harnessing AI.
The J P Systems AI Governance Program is designed to empower and protect healthcare organizations in their journey towards properly governed AI usage.
Federal agencies and their partners need a trusted partner to launch them on their way to safe AI. According to Forbes Magazine the use cases for AI are: early detection and diagnosis, personalized treatments, telemedicine, remote monitoring of chronic conditions, and enhanced administrative efficiency. We at J P Systems see many more use cases, including research, data aggregation, data quality enhancement, and communications. All of these use cases require clean and standardized data as a starting point. Since we are experts at software systems design, we know that AI is added on to systems as a layer, sitting on top of both legacy and cloud-based systems. It is this layered architecture which demands that the lower foundational layers and the data on which they operate are subject to continuous, strenuous governance and monitoring.
Why AI Governance Matters
Proper AI Integration and the governance surrounding that is critical for safe patient outcomes. NIH ARPA-H estimates that AI hallucinations occur at the rate of 33-50%. Picture what would happen on top of that, if the clinical data quality is subpar. If your organization is depending on recommendations generated by an AI and the patient data is incorrect, you will receive erroneous guidance. The dangerous and risky advice could run the gamut from radiology diagnoses to cancer treatment plans to billing system glitches and more. The services we offer are for AI Governance, Change Management, Health Factors and Interoperability Planning. As the world of Healthcare IT is continually subject to change through new EHR releases, terminology releases, and process changes, your AI systems must be continually monitored for their reliability.
Careful incremental integration of tested AI algorithms all done according to best IT practices, will be beneficial to your organization if properly managed. You may wish to consider the following focal points:
- Patient-Centric Care: AI has the potential to enable patients to have granular control over their health data. It could empower them to make informed decisions and actively participate in their care.
- Comprehensive Insights: By breaking down data silos, AI interoperability provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive view of patient records.
- Regulatory Compliance: The 21st Century Cures Act mandates patient data interoperability for payers, providers and healthcare organizations.
- Change Management: AI software must be carefully governed, and the outputs verified.
AI Readiness Program Objectives
Our AI Governance Program focuses on four key objectives:
- Establish AI Governance Board
- This is a diverse group of stakeholders including: IT, clinical and hospital administrative staff who create the needed controls, standards and policies for patient care and safety
- Assess Current AI Maturity
- Understand where your organization stands in terms of AI maturity
- ISO 27001 Standards Compliance
- Document and evaluate existing systems, data sources, and integration capabilities
- AI Roadmap Production
- Collaborate with our experts to create a roadmap for achieving AI interoperability
- Identify priorities for your healthcare domains
- Monitor AI Regulatory Changes
- Stay informed about the latest requirements from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Prepare for upcoming legislative and regulatory deadlines for compliance
Foundations of AI Governance: APIs
Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) can serve as an extension to your EHR system. These APIs facilitate data flow across disparate systems with your internal and external stakeholders.
Our program fosters meaningful partnerships across the care continuum, tracks risks, and fuels patient-centered innovation. We collaborate with a large network of business partners to meet your unique needs.
The J P Systems AI Governance Program equips organizations with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate through an AI enhanced healthcare ecosystem.
Let’s embark on this transformative journey together!
